A classroom is a second home to many students, and when my students walk into my class I want them to feel that way. I want to create a warm, cozy, and welcoming environment for students to grow their love for reading and writing.
I am asking for some new class novels so I can build my classroom library and give students a variety of options for their independent reading books, and reach all types of readers within my class. I also want pillows to add to my cozy corner, which is a popular staple in my class where students like to read and collaborate on their work. I would like to get the light blockers because my students prefer a lower level of lighting as they work steadily. I also would love to have a laminator so I can laminate model student work as well as anchor charts and posters I make for my class. My electric pencil sharpener broke this fall, and I am constantly running through pencils, so they would be greatly appreciated and are used daily by students.
All these materials will build my classroom into a welcoming and engaging space. I want to teach the writer's of the future, but that can only happen through reading, practice, and a love for learning. It is my firm belief that love for learning can only exist when a student feels like the are in a safe and welcoming space that meets their needs.
