As a result of the pandemic, students have spent more time outside of the classroom. They may or may not have books at home that can support them where they are as readers. Most books are too difficult for them to read. These books and resources will enable me to provide a variety of ways to support students as they learn to read. These books will help build a leveled classroom library. I can use these books to begin guided reading groups in our classroom, helping students learn specific skills I have identified they need to learn. These books will also be used to fill student's鈥 鈥渂ook bags鈥 they they can use as they learn and implement the practice of reading independently in the classroom. Also, if we must move to remote learning, students will be able to bring these books home to read books that super their skill level. This will ensure that they continue to learn, even if that instruction is outside the classroom. The letter boards and 鈥渨rite and wipe鈥 pockets will provide resources to help students who are still learning their letters, as some students continue to need help with letter formation and directionality.
Kindergarten is the foundation of a person鈥檚 learning journey. Providing students with a solid foundation in kindergarten will propel the entire student body to male literacy gains in the years to come.
