I am requesting a set of magnetic letters and a magnetic white board for each of my students to use in class.
These materials will be used in class as we practice manipulating words in our quest to become better readers and writers.
Currently, we use paper cut out letters that tear and get lost easily. We use these letters when we practice our phonics skills each week. These resources would benefit my students when we do whole group activities and when I pull smaller remediation groups as well. Phoneme manipulation is a research based practice that helps develop students’ phonemic awareness, which is a foundational skill needed for learning to read.
Using these magnetic letters and boards, my students will easily be able to segment words and delete or substitute phonemes to build words in a true hands-on learning fashion that is engaging and fun in order to help overcome some of the gaps in learning that have come about as a result of the pandemic.
