Imagine turning the lights down with your new library book, grabbing a flashlight, and snuggling in a bean bag chair for some silent reading. Developing independent readers is imperative for future student success. Since the pandemic started and our students scattered to all different kinds of schooling, it’s important to meet them at their level by making reading fun and active!
Silent reading develops confidence and improves comprehension. Students can read books without worrying about pronunciation which helps them comprehend what they are reading better. They are also able to tackle words they do not know on their own which builds confidence. Alternative seating can be used in a group or individually. Students with varying emotional and learning needs require environments that encourage discovery and deeper learning. Creating new, engaging, and fun environments for students to pick up a book and will encourage all students to read and grow.
