As a final unit of study, I want to provide my students with the experience of reading the Diary of Anne Frank in class. This set will serve as a class set, with some extras for students to use at home when sick or to make up work. We currently do not have access to enough copies for a class set that we can use for in-class study.
This will provide us to have a moving and meaningful final unit that revolves around the power of writing and nonfiction.
I want my students to come away from this novel study with more than improved literacy and vocabulary, but with a greater sense of the world and self. In conjunction with their reading, they will also be journaling about their own lives privately (not even I will read it) to connect with their thoughts and emotions in the way Anne Frank did.
