Cicero said, 鈥淎 room without books is like a body without the soul.鈥 I couldn鈥檛 agree more! As our school year has progressed a few needs have emerged in my classroom. My project revolves around expanding book choices and seating options to help my classroom of budding readers bloom.
The primary need that has arisen over the course of this school year is the need for a wider variety of book levels due to reading discrepancies caused by the Covid-19 Pandemic! My limited selection of books doesn鈥檛 meet the needs of all of my students as many of them read below a third grade level! Additionally, many of my students have requested certain genre of books that they prefer to the ones currently in my classroom library! Purchasing new, and widely varied books, would allow all of my students to find books in my classroom library that are appropriate and enjoyable for them.
The second need that has become apparent this year is the need for more flexible seating options! Hard desk chairs don鈥檛 always make the most welcoming area to read. My students often spend their reading time squirming and trying to get comfortable instead of delving into their book. The addition of flexible seating will allow my students to read in a cozy nook of their own choosing. With the new books and flexible seating options, my students will be encouraged to read exciting on-level books in a comfortable environment!
