I am asking for iPads with durable cases for my 2nd grade classroom. My students definitely love when we are able to use technology in our classroom.
I have tried to create lessons and activities where students can get their hands on the technology we have available. I have found awesome websites where students are able to listen to fluent readers read amazing picture books. After the books are read, I love to overhear the conversations students have about the text.
They love this listening center rotation. There are apps that allow student to work at their ability level with leveled text. As they complete reading tasks, they are able to progress along their reading journey. I see this reaching the needs of my diverse range of learners.
I would like to be able to use an app I found that allows a child to record their reading and then it annotates what they read. When they analyze their own reading, they build confidence and light up when they realize and can hear what they are capable of. With more than one iPad, I would be able to utilize them more effectively in one on one to small group work.
With my single school device and multiple personal devices, I have tried to provide my students with opportunities to engage in QR Code activities for math, literacy and science. We have used our classroom iPad to look up information for animal and habitat research for non-fiction writing, travel brochures, etc. We have used it for vocabulary activities, phonics apps, mathematical fluency apps, science and social studies sites and more.
It is great what we have done with 1 iPad, but awesome to think of what we could do with a couple more.
