With the recent pandemic, children need music now more than ever. The boomwhackers will allow students to use and feel their emotions while creating a beautiful noise and learn the different sounds each whacker makes and how those sounds can be used to create music. Rhythm sticks allow for the same emotional output as the whackers but allows the students to create their own rhythms.
Immersing ourselves in a musical experience can not only change our mood but also give us a healthy and creative way to handle emotions.
Handbells will help create a setting where the class has to work as a team to create a song or piece. This will also allow the students to engage with one another in a way that they haven't done before. These students have been with each other since preschool due to there only being one class per grade. As 3rd graders they have the stress of their first major state test and all of the other stressors inflicted on them from the past couple years from the pandemic. Giving them the gift of music to express themselves will not only improve their learning but give them tools they can use in their lives forever.
