More and more research shows that active, large muscle play helps young children learn and grow to the best of their abilities. They need to move and play in a less structured environment for stretches of time throughout their school day. In Oklahoma, we often have days and even weeks when we are not able to get outside to play because of inclement weather.
Active play saves the day for pre-k classes! We love to allow our kids to tumble, balance, hop, swing their arms, crawl and collaborate with each other every day. When we can't go outside, this is limited because our classrooms aren't capable of supporting that kind of play. We have a large hallway in our pre-k wing that would easily accommodate tumbling mats and other such equipment and could be used, in turn, by all four classes.
