My fourth grade students enjoy learning abut historical figures around the world. The book series "Who Is/Was" will help introduce students to famous men and women who have made a difference in the world around us.
My students CRAVE the knowledge about historical figures. They enjoy sharing tidbits with one another while reading. They get ecstatic at the opportunities to compare books, especially when the timelines overlap.
Reading these biographies will encourage reading in the classroom. Also, I hope they will spark the interest in wanting to expand their knowledge and dive deeper into each historical figure and their backgrounds.
Our fourth grade completes a research biography project each year. The students are able to select a person from the list, read the biography, complete rough drafts, draw/color/cut and paste images of the person, and create a slideshow to present. This is a fun project and will hopefully inspire the young men and women to set their dreams high.
