Bucket drumming will allow my students to complete many standards. This includes reading music and creating musical notations to create rhythms. Students will develop motor skills as they learn basic drumming techniques all while having fun producing music. This activity will keep students highly engaged as it allows for a lot of movement and requires focus to read music notes or keep a steady beat.
The pandemic resulted in many children not using their motor skills as much as they would in school. With some missing dedicated time to Physical Education and Music, and with mainly virtual assignments on an electronic device, many children have been less active. Bucket drumming allows for fine motor skill development when holding drumsticks and also large motor development in arm movements to create sound. It is highly active!
Another result of the pandemic is that many children missed the opportunity to play instruments. Bucket drumming allows them to play in an exciting way. Many children also missed opportunities to work as a team, be encouraging and supportive, and be patient. Since bucket drumming will be a whole class activity, it will require each child to do their best for our whole 鈥渂and鈥 of bucket drums. Students will work together to produce the correct rhythms, beats, and songs. This may be challenging for some students, so children will get practice in being patient and supporting their classmates. Finally, bucket drumming shows children that they can create music by turning ordinary things into instruments. So, even when they are at home, they can still make music!
