During the pandemic, many students were attempting to learn in isolation. For many, creativity and exploration were put on hold. In my project-based learning class, students will use guiding questions to enhance research, then apply gathered information to construct a tangible product to share with their peers.
Students will be designing an original family crest and then creating a flag on which the crest will be displayed. In class, we will examine famous family crests, discuss symbolism and generate interview questions for family members. Students will research their family's sir name using a website.
Students will design a family crest to represent the findings of their research. The design will be painted onto a piece of fabric. Students will be required to explain the relationship of the design and colors as it relates to their family heritage. The fabric will then be attached to dowel rods to complete the project. The flags will be displayed around the school.
I want my students to realize that there is power in creation and purpose when we learn from the past.
