To help the students learn self-control and whole-body movement amid the pandemic, I will use the supplies to teach relaxation, reset and calming strategies to all students. I will also use these tools for students in challenging situations where they need time to regroup and refocus. Social emotional learning is a key component in the school setting for whole body control and social success. Children at a young age do not have the frontal lobe development to regulate their emotions. Through purposeful movement and high emotional support, we increase social skills and decrease problem behaviors. By allowing students time on spinning activities, their sensory stimulation is enhanced, kinesthetic awareness is dialed in, development of decision making is engaged, and the children have FUN! The pandemic negatively impacted students socially and kept them isolated and reliant on electronics. By adding these resources to the ABL/SEL classroom, a whole-body approach will be at the forefront of learning.
