A colorful carpet (rug) in a Kindergarten classroom is the main gathering place. As my children enter the classroom we gather on the rug to begin our day. We have stories, learn the calendar, weather, pledge, and numbers. We have show and tell circles and partner sharing. We sing the ABC's, practice sounds, sight words, and read and spell our very first words. We dance, learn poems, watch videos, march, sing songs and count to 100. The carpet is where "Everything I need to know I learned in Kindergarten" happens!
