Through the COVID-19 pandemic, our young learners have missed out on very basic life skills. To say that the pandemic has fostered a dependence for these young learners is an understatement. My job as a classroom teacher is to ensure that they are not only successful academically, but that these learners are given every opportunity to be self-sufficient and starting with the basic life skills allows for this.
A Recipe for Success allows my learners to achieve independence. Many of my learners are latch key children. This portable classroom kitchen will allow for us to incorporate everyday life skills in our classroom. while learning these life skills we will master reading, math and science skills by looking over, reading, and following recipes, measuring ingredients and putting it all together (cooking) to make a delicious treat (the reward). Hard work, attention to detail and following the process allows for an instant return when the delicious food is ready to serve. This also allows the learners to learn safety first when in the kitchen. It teaches them time management skills as well. It also teaches them how to follow through and that with every good thing a cleanup hour is always necessary.
