Writing is essential in any grade! Students begin writing when they are in Pre-K and sometimes do not get the hang of it until they are in 1st grade and beyond. During this pandemic, students have had to start using iPads daily and because of it, they are trying to use their fingers to write on the iPad. While their fingers are small, it is very difficult for them to write on the iPad making their work almost illegible. My students have become frustrated at times because they are truly trying and the iPad often does not register what they are writing.
Continuity is important for my students and with the materials I am requesting, they will be able to go from writing with paper and pencil to iPad and pen easily.
Because they will be using the pen in writing on the iPad, they will continue working on those fine motor skills that are needed to build the muscles in their hands to help them write. This will help them not just this year, but in their overall schooling. Student frustrations will also be down, as they will be able to control the writing using the materials requested.
