The Classroom Cookbook project allows students to practice the skills of multiplying and dividing fractions. Students bring a favorite simple recipe from home. They are required to cut the recipe in half and then double it. Students will also create a conversion chart to add to their cookbook. They will use calculators to help in this process.
All students recipes go into the cookbook; however, each student designs and creates a cover for his or her individual cookbook. We will use a classroom colored printer, laminator, colored paper, and plastic combs to bind the books. The cookbook is published in time for Mother’s Day if students choose to give them as gifts, but I have a feeling many will keep them themselves.
