I work in a high poverty, low income school. Many of my children enter school without any prior knowledge of routines, procedures, and classroom settings. School supplies are objects of play until taught proper usage.
My children are needy, challenging, and full of wonder. I get the privilege to open their minds to the beginning of true school learning. I become their "school mother". I provide the rules, routines, and high expectations that they clasp on to, in their world of chaos.
