The Pocket Translator will enable my newcomer English Learners to begin their school journey in a welcoming manner. Students can ask and answer questions orally in their native language using the Pocket Translator. The device will then translate in written and spoken format into English. Vice versa, I can ask or give directions to the student and the device will orally translate into their native language. The Translator has an 82 language capability covering all of the many languages spoken by newcomers at my school.
I teach my students how to read, write, speak and listen in English; however, the Pocket Translator will make the transition of learning a new language more successful and less stressful for them. In addition, the newcomers can "pocket" their devices and use them with their regular classroom teachers, specials teachers and anyone they encounter at school to help take away the language barrier.
