Before COVID arrived on the scene, some of my students would often go home and re-create the experiments they learned in the classroom. This was a HUGE accomplishment because my students are classified a low functioning autistic.
Since COVID and all the interruptions it's caused, my students are more withdrawn. I'd like to be able to engage them again, and Science is the way to do it! Science opens up their world to new ideas and new information. Having these new items in the classroom will help do that.
Science transcends the classroom. It inspires people in ways that some think are impossible. One of my students wanted to hatch eggs at home like we did in the classroom. Another student inspired his family to grow a garden because of the classroom garden we grew that year. I want to get back to the exciting accomplishments my students had.
COVID has robbed my students of so much. It is my duty as an educator to regain that enthusiasm of learning for my students.
