The resources I have requested are going to help my students advance their academic learning by providing yet another pathway for learners to make connections to their work. These connections will help students build their subject area knowledge. From creating their own word families with magnetic letters to creating a personalized ten frame with wiki-sticks, my students will be able to make personal connections with their education. It will advance their overall well-being by encouraging teamwork and real-world problem solving skills.
My goal as an educator is not only to foster learning of subject areas but to also foster relationship and people skills for students to use later in life. For their entire school career, my students have been using technology to communicate and interact with others. While this is not always a bad thing, I believe that hands-on activities and team building skills are very important for a successful, well-rounded child. Activities like the bee-bot and magna tiles will help students work together to create something that they can be proud of while building these essential life skills.
