One of the interventions we utilize is a computer program called Fast ForWord. I have students in my room daily utilizing this program on ipads with headphones. After years of use, my headphones are glitching or ceasing to work altogether. They desperately need replaced. Students need practice and exposure to words with the phonics patterns and correspondences that are taught. This requires materials such as the magnetic shapes that can be used to tap out the sounds in words. Then the corresponding letters can be written on the tiles with the chalk pens and easily erased. Students can also use the letters to build words with patterns we are learning and practicing. These materials will help our practice by anchoring the patterns we are learning in memory and foster fluent orthographic mapping as students transfer these skills to independent reading.
