COVID-19 has caused many learning challenges within our classrooms. The most glaring concern is a lack of engagement and learning gaps in their education. With students at home, learning engagement became more difficult than ever. With high school students, this lack of engagement has been difficult to overcome as students transition back to the classroom and back again to distance learning. Students seem disconnected from their education. We are working tirelessly to engage students and return achievement levels back to pre-pandemic times. With this lack of engagement, learning gaps have increased more than ever. Students are academically behind and simply don’t have the background knowledge they need to tackle the academic standards.
With COVID-19 still impacting schools, we are trying to keep students safe while engaging them in quality education. COVID-19 is still spreading amongst students. We are trying to engage students in hands-on science which they desperately need to increase achievement. This requires additional safety precautions. We have to protect them for a normal lab. Now, we must take additional precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
These materials will make a difference in my classroom because students will be more focused on learning instead of their comfortability. I have tabletop desks that fit 2 students per desk. These desks can be used to draw on and create things on. Majority of my students stand or lean forward at their desk because of cracks and wobbly chairs. These chairs are old and have been used for over 10 years.
I believe students learn best in comfortable environments. Taking away as many distractions from the learning environment, can help students become more engaged, and achieve their learning goals.
