Decodable texts give them more needed opportunities to experience success reading words they have been taught in my lessons. These readers give my students the chance to sound out words rather than looking at pictures and guessing. To be successful readers, they need to engage with texts that allow them to repeatedly draw on previously taught phonics skills.
