Labs are the best way for students to develop a working knowledge of career-based material. They provide a hands-on learning experience that allows students to go through the motions of the industry they are learning about and apply their knowledge to real-world situations. In labs, metal working tools, PPE materials, storage stations will allow students to perform labs safely and keep materials organized. Tools will allow the labs to be as effective as possible for student learning.
Data that the department has collected from labs has proved that students learn more when they can demonstrate kinesthetic learning when provided with tangible materials. Students show more willingness and excitement when it comes to learning because they are given the chance to prove they understand the task at hand. Students can tie a direct link to the project they are working on to a potential future career causing them to retain the information faster and more effectively.
The materials that I have selected for my project will allow me to teach responsibility to students in regards to personal safety and organization. The PPE will keep our students safe while demonstrating their mastery of the task at hand. The tool storage will provide a commonplace for students to locate needed materials quickly giving them more time to practice their skills. The metal working tool will allow students to have a firmer understanding of how things work in real-world job-based situations. All items requested will be used consistently by multiple groups of students giving our program more career-ready individuals. This not only assists our students in the program but the community as a whole. Providing the workforce with individuals that are ready to work right out of school will continue to move our community forward.
