Pre-K students need variety and novelty to catch and keep their attention. The light tablets and manipulatives that go with them, along with new costumes and a washer/dryer playset will help my classroom be a play based class. Pretend play and playing with objects that have numbers, words, and letters on them, promote prereading skills. The children in my class will be better prepared for Kindergarten. The pandemic has caused many children to be behind in social and academic skills and has required them to spend a little too much time looking at screens instead of socializing.
The items I've asked for are not only eye catching and interesting to this age group, but sturdy enough to last through several years of play. I will be able to reinforce the language skills that I am introducing in a way that feels like a game and keeps their attention. They will also be using their imagination and developing social skills they may be missing.
