In my classroom, I allow my students to work in small groups or independently. Currently, my students are choosing to work in a variety of locations in our room such as different tables, or sitting on the floor on foam mats with pillows. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. For the most part, they make good choices about where they sit, are more engaged, and get more work completed than when they are sitting at their desk. My project will provide my students with additional seating to choose from, making them more engaged in their work. Whether it's sitting on the rug with clipboards, or on the balance ball to read with their buddies, these students will have more options. I also requested the fidget chair bands for the times we are at our desks and have problems focusing and sitting still. With one semester down, my students are just now realizing the fun of reading. These students have lost a lot of time in the last two years because of the pandemic, and sadly it has affected a good percentage of students' reading levels. My project will provide more reading books to add to my classroom library. I have chosen several different reading levels to choose from. The carpet rug I requested, has the United States on it. In fourth grade, our students study the five regions of the United States, and I felt the students would love being able to sit and study on it. I have seen how choice can positively affect my students' work and hope that the additional items will help us grow even more!
