As the only first grade teacher in a small, rural Oklahoma school, I need a variety of items to help better serve my students.
Flexible seating is one thing that can help a variety of students in the classroom. These flexible seating options can help maintain better attention of these small students. By providing floor seats and a comfortable computer chair, students will be able to test and do work with a variety of options.
Magni tiles will help their growing minds as a form of STEM learning. We are also in need of a new pencil sharpener, as the one we have doesn't work all the time, and it's the only one we have. First graders use crayons A LOT and a crayon sharpener would not only help extend the life of the crayons, but it would better help their fine motor skills which COVID-19 has impacted through virtual learning. With this, water color paper will let students paint as an outlet for their emotions that they are continuing to endure, while encouraging fine motor development. We will also use paintings as a way to integrate science and art through being able to grow our very own flowers in the classroom and be able to see the different steps throughout the plant cycle, all while sharpening our pencils, crayons, and minds!
