We are working on making the Resource Room's physical environment into a place where students with learning disabilities can easily feel like themselves, learn in their own unique best way, and increase their self-regulation and focus skills.
My learners need materials to meet their sensory needs.
I am creating a movement corner for kids who use physical activity to calm themselves. A gym mat will complete this space, giving them a safe area to practice the "heavy work" and balance movement that is so important for self regulation and focus. Wobble cushions will help students concentrate in their seats during whole group lesson times. The other flexible seating choices will be used for stations and our reading area.
Our kids also like to play with Theraputty, water timers, and fidgets on their breaks! Their favorite Theraputty color/strengths are red and green. This has been a big stress reliever for them with the added benefit of strengthening the hand muscles used for writing!
