My students have missed so much instruction from COVID illnesses and quarantines that their reading levels have been severely affected. The best way to improve their reading levels is to get them to read at home, on the bus, before school, and after school but there has to be incentive due to the competing activities, such as TikTok, video games, and social media.
My goal is to encourage and reward students for their independent reading with incentives for accumulating AR points. Currently, my class only has access to the mobile computer lab once a week, therefore, my students are only able to take AR tests once a week. My class needs just a few Chromebooks for them to be able to test as frequently as they need to.
