As aforementioned, my students this year are very bright and inquisitive learners. While I love teaching these energetic learners, I have a few students that truly struggle staying seated or even at their desk when it's time to work. Many times, those gifted students have subtle learning deficiencies that make staying at their desks difficult and/or sitting in their chairs almost impossible. These students are frequently getting up to socialize, crouching down with their feet on the seat of their chairs or while their feet are on the ground, their bottom is resting on the back of the chair. They just have an aversion to staying seated. This issue becomes a problem and a distraction to the whole class.
These students will benefit academically by providing them a different seating option, an elevated table and tall chair (with a foot rest).
They will benefit by sitting upright and having a better and direct view of the instructors table. This will help with focusing their attention. Their legs will be extended and feet will have a secure place to rest, instead of bent and tucked under their chairs. These students will also have more personal space, not sitting in too close of proximity or bothering others.
By sitting up higher and to the side of the room, it will reduce the ease and frequency of them getting out of their chairs to wander around and socialize.
