Most of my kids do not have the understanding of how plants and animals survive. That is a half of my science curriculum. They see living organisms every day of their life but have never learned what they need to survive and grow. With the items I have chosen, they will see first hand what it takes and have a hands on approach with that survival to help them with retention.
Being responsible for living organisms such as plants and a small ecosystem will help them have a better understanding of what it takes for them to survive. They will be able to see, first hand, how the different parts of an ecosystem work together. This can also be tied to lesson on humans as well. My kids are at an age they need to learn we all can work together and help each other.
There are so many resources on teachers pay teachers that I would love to be able to purchase to go along with all of the ideas I have for using the ecosystem tank and root kit. They will help even more with my kids understanding life science, not just for plants and animals, but for themselves as well.
