My students are some of the most creative, intelligent students in urban Illinois! My students are gifted at developing ideas, but they lack some skill in representing their ideas on paper. Parents cannot always afford the school supplies students need to develop their thoughts on paper. My students live in the moment and that makes writing and drawing difficult if you have to wait for a marker, pen, or pencil. They are living in situation where there is not enough money for food, or heat is cut off in the dead of winter, or a shower or load of laundry is not promised. I DO NOT want them to worry about having their needs met in the classroom!
