I am a Special Education Teacher in Darlington, SC, where 44% of students are minorities and 100% are economically disadvantaged. I teach at Mayo High School for Math, Science, and Technology, one of four high schools in our district. Currently, I have a caseload of 10 students in grades 9-12. My students have Learning Disabilities, Autism, Mild Intellectual Disabilities, and Other Health Impairments. Many have ADHD, and those with Autism often have sensory needs. Each student’s requirements vary based on their disability, socioeconomic background, learning history, and personal experiences.
Despite their challenges, my students show incredible enthusiasm for learning. Their excitement is evident every day, and witnessing their growth is truly rewarding. I cherish each one of them and feel blessed to have them in my life.
