My students are energetic and eager to learn, however, they are not yet fully capable of making a direct connection between handheld devices and their education.
My school is an under-performing school especially in mathematics, students need to be engaged in their learning and hooked by the type of technology that they are familiar with. The population of my classes are 95% African American and from what I have experienced with them, they have a belief that they are not good in math. Historically and almost traditionally, my school comes in last place on the state test. The majority of which includes their fear of and hatred for mathematics. I believe that my school realizes that participatory learning is important, but there is no buy in when it comes to truly understanding what it takes to make a math lesson successful. With Ipads in the classroom I will be able to engage the students with innovative applications such as FluidMath - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAFGONn4KoQ.
