I am a second grade teacher to 28 bright young scholars. I teach at a small school that has 400 students in grades K-5. 100% of the students are English Language Learners living at or below the poverty level.
Reading is an essential part of learning and is required across the curriculum and throughout life. My students look forward to story every day. Books offer them a chance to be exposed to a new world with an opportunity to explore and expand their imaginations. With the collection of books I have chosen, students will be given a chance to experience life through a story. Our classroom library is the only opportunity many of them have to find a fascinating book to read.
