My students are boys and girls much like children you know. They like to eat pizza, play games, and go to recess. They also like to get the right answer on a quiz. They LOVE to feel confident enough to raise their hand to answer a question in class. I can actually see their self confidence get a little boost when they can answer a question with certainty.
We live in an economically depressed area so many of my students come from disadvantaged homes. As a result, they have not seen much of what students in better circumstances see, such as how to use measuring devices.
