My name is Teresa Leonard, and I am a Special Education Teacher. I currently teach in a CCP (Cross-Categorical-Primary) classroom at Whitmore Elementary School in Tucson, Arizona. I teach students diagnosed with a variety of disabilities. Most of my students this year have ASD (autism spectrum disorder). Many of them are non-verbal and have a deficit when it comes to reading social cues. I keep a clean classroom with attention to visual detail, so the students are in a friendly and warm atmosphere. I have created and purchased communication boards that allow for pictures to support my students’ ability to hand the staff a picture of their desire or need, rather than a verbal response. This has proven to be effective in their ability to communicate. Donors Choose has been the cornerstone of my ability to supply essential materials to my classroom!
I am grateful for the ongoing support!
Thank you,
Mrs. Leonard
