My students are the lights of my life. They are recent immigrants from Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Mexico and South and Central America. They are hard working kids who so desperately need books in their own language. All of them are below grade level in reading in English, specifically because we don't have enough resources to develop their literacy skills in Spanish. We are a transitional bilingual program in New Haven. We are in a school of 55% language learners and 100% free and reduced lunch.
