Over the past 3 years, I have taught a special education class designated for autistic students. My students range from kindergarten to 4th grade, but cognitively range from 1 year old to second grade, making learning a challenge for many of them. Many of my students also exhibit other health issues, from mild to severe, but all lack social/emotional skills, communication skills, and cognitive skills in one or more academic areas. I LOVE my students! I truly believe that a program like this will connect with my students and not only encourage learning, but with retention as well. Being the only school offering autistic services within a 50 radius, I want to do as much as possible to facilitate and encourage learning in all areas!
