6th grade is the first time students have full time science class and get to experience the wonder of it all. Science standards include developing a model and when allowed to create through hands-on projects students shine.
According to a study from the University of Chicago in 2015, "Students who physically experience scientific concepts understand them more deeply and score better on science tests."
Our standards include a thermal energy build for MS-PS1-4. Develop a model that predicts and describes changes in particle motion, temperature, and state of a pure substance when thermal energy is added or removed. We move into life science with a cell model for MS-LS1-2. Develop and use a model to describe the function of a cell as a whole and ways parts of cells contribute to the function. Supplies purchased will help students develop these models.
All of the learning and building doesn't happen without the ability to regulate one's behavior, so wobble chairs, fidgets, and other sensory items will allow students to focus while learning!
My students and I appreciate your consideration and generosity.
