I teach block periods, so I have 3 groups of 25-30 students that I keep for 2 periods. Students range in reading levels from English learners who are learning English and read beginner books to advanced readers.
We do have a school library; however, books that are popular are often checked out quickly. I try to provide an array of books in my classroom library that appeal to all students in all reading levels.
I have had students come back from previous years to check out books from my library so an engaging reading area is something that students enjoy.
Nearly all students in the school come from low income households. I strive to provide a relaxing and welcoming environment for all. I want my students to want to come to class and to want to learn-I believe that is the key to making a difference!
