My 1st grade students are eager and ready to learn! The real task at hand is keeping my young learners engaged! With the changing times it gets harder and harder to keep these active minds engaged and focused. My students need some more interactive and collaborative opportunities to learn math and phonics concepts. I compete with technology daily so I want to present my students with more hands on learning activities and resources. I want them to learn to collaborate, problem solve, and become confident learners. My goal is to continue to foster their love for learning at a young age by using interactive tools such as magnetic ten frames, Hot Dots, and a 100 chart floor mat. Right now my library is stocked with many books but lacks comfortable seating for my readers to enjoy their books. Our library will be more inviting and comfortable with bean bag chairs. They will definitely want to cozy up with a good book. My students will love using magnetic base ten blocks and a 100 chart floor mat they can manipulate to learn 1st grade math standards in collaborative groups. They will have the opportunity to collaborate with each other using the phonics dominos and math folder games. All the materials will be used by the students to help them master 1st grade skills in a more engaging and interactive way!
