鈥淭here is no skill on earth that children want to acquire more than reading.鈥-Dr. Marion Blank
Research shows that the use of electronic textbooks can support learning and comprehension levels in children. The students at my school have been given the opportunity to access 1000's of book titles online but with little to no devices from which to access them. In my elementary school, there are over 900 students K-5. The kindergarten classrooms at my school tend to be the last to receive technology due to kindergarten not being mandatory and because kindergarten is not required to do high stakes testing. With a limited number of tablets available in the school, kindergarten is required to give back tablets that have been checked out when the other grade levels need them.
The Kindles will be used during literacy stations, independent reading and free time. Being in a low income Title I chool, with a high ELL population, many of my students do not have technology available to them. With the Kindles my students will be more excited and motivated to learn to read.
