Most (not all) of my students come from low economic backgrounds. A lot of them are trying to figure out how they will survive with high school academics. These are the students that once they have failed, it takes years for them to realize what they gave up by giving up on themselves, and even more time to get themselves to where they should have been.
Our school uses AVID methodologies, which are great for general education students. However, for students who struggle with organizational skills (my students), the demands that are placed of them are great. Our teachers do not have the class time to get these students organized. This skill is implied--and where my students fall apart and start to lose hope for success.
