The children in my classroom come from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. Many students are second language learners. I would like to create an environment in our room that fosters language development, communication skills, and a deeper understanding of the people and places that surround us in our lives.
Children will have play based experiences that will lead their imagination to a better future. Who are they now, and who will they grow up to become. They will be able to explore emotions, community development, social skills, and english language with a low affective filter through play.
Puppets, diverse dolls, trains, and cars will provide a foundation for children to play. They will interact, growing their language skills. They will work together to create their own towns, and stories. Some of these stories may even help build skills needed to resolve a conflict at school or at home.
