I teach a middle school special education classroom. Having the ability to use colors to code subjects is extremely helpful to SpEd students who need an instant way to find subject related materials.
I can print worksheets, reward certificates, and related items with colored paper, a classroom printer that uses colored ink (because sometimes black and white pages are hard to use), and photos and task cards are always better in color so that students can recognize items they come across in daily activities and promote life skill building.
Life is not lived in black and white; it is vibrant and full of color everywhere we look, and teaching should be equal to the task.
Middle school students are bridging the "child to young adult" stages in life, and providing them with access to real-life examples/scenarios will give them materials to practice responses and self-management skills they will need as adults.
