My students are all high schoolers between the ages of 16-18, mostly upperclassmen. Most have taken Drama for years and more join everyday because of what our group has been able to achieve already. Our school is sandwiched between the largest high school in the district, which is well-funded with an auditorium, and schools of a neighboring city, which are acclaimed for their theater programs. In spite of what seems daunting odds, my students have not accepted sneaking quietly backstage but have come out of the shadows of larger, wealthier theater programs and out shined them all. My students have consistently wanted to do more difficult plays, write their own work and produce their own art--something most students do not or cannot do until college. They are determined and talented and I want my classroom to be well-equipped to serve them as an outlet for their artistic creativity.
