I teach in a high school in Phoenix, Arizona. Our school is Title 1 funded and over half of our students are eligible for free or reduced lunch. This is my 12th year of teaching and every single day I am amazed at the joy these students bring to me despite the hardships they often face at home. I also co-teach two classes with a special education teacher, so many of our students are hesitant readers who have struggled with school for a majority of their lives. Sadly, many admit to us that they have never read a book, cover to cover EVER! Together, we want to find that one book that changes their perception of reading and lets them know they too can love to read and escape their personal troubles for a few hours.
