My students are mostly Latino and the majority are the first generation of their family that will attend college. They are bilingual and very bright. Given they have chosen to participate in an Honors Program, they are highly motivated to succeed. They not only enjoy competing with one another, I encourage them to learn how to compete with their best self. Large classes in a large urban district with lots of transiency means limited access to resources, especially during this difficult economic time. I try to engage these capable young people in as many different ways as possible, including preparing for assessments.
